Do lower req weapons do more damage?
I didn't think so, but today I talked to someone in game who swore that they did.
If you have: 1) axe 6-28 15% req 7 2) axe 6-28 15% req 13 and your axe attribute is at 16, are you doing more damage with #1 or same with both axes? |

Both would do the same damage. But #1 will have a higher Critical hit rate.

Actually they have the same critical and damage rate reguardless of the requirement. I say this because there are only two factors that determine the rate of Critical hits and they are weapon mastery and Level Difference.

What about at 14? Would it still be the same as with 16?

the only time the axes wouldnt deal the same damage is 12 and Under, if you had 12 Axemastery the second one would deal very low damage.

Requirement-meeting is binary. Either you meet the requirement or you don't. It doesn't matter how much you exceed it by or anything like that.
(Having a high weapon mastery attribute will increase your damage and crit rate with all weapons of that type, but that's totally separate from the requirement.) |

Here's a table I found on Guru.
Effect of Attributes on Weapon DamageAttribute Level Percent of Weapon Damage 0 35.6% 1 38.6% 2 42.0% 3 45.9% 4 50.0% 5 54.5% 6 59.5% 7 64.8% 8 70.7% 9 77.1% 10 84.1% 11 91.7% 12 100% 13 104% 14 107% 15 111% 16 115% Having 12 points of attribute will give 100% of the stated damage on the weapon. The requirement is for decoration. Here's an equation I found for Critical hits. [Effective Damage] = [Max Weapon Damage] × 2^(( 5 × [Attribute Level] - 40 ) / 40) The only factors that affect critical hits are damage on your weapon and attribute level. Hope that will clear any confusion. Last edited by Murder In China; Apr 13, 2006 at 07:58 AM // 07:58.. |

in other words. ANY axe with the same mods, will ALWAYS do the same dmg provided that stats when used are the same, and the requirement is met in both instances. So, 6-28 dmg, req 7 and 6-28 dmg, req 13 WILL do the same dmg as long as player stats remain same, at least 13 axe mastery when both are used.
There are really only two reasons to seek lower req items. One: The lower the required req, the more flexible one can be when creating new builds being able to use that weapon while still freeing up more points for wherever they wish. Two: The lower the req, the higher you can sell it for, because people are still under the impression that they will do more dmg then the same item with a higher req. LoL, in other words its a great marketing gimmik that has gotten me mad cash (in-game) in my hay day of trading on the GW market... enjoy. |

Low reqs are great if you want to have a mixture of abilities. For my Hammer Warrior I dont really care what the req is since I always have it maxed out. However, for my Necro I like lower reqs so I can run a combination of Curses and other things, especially Mesmer skills.
